Things To Do On A Rainy Day
Posted on June 30, 2017.
With the rainy season upon us here in Miami, our weather kinda sucks (while most of the rest of the U.S. is finally getting to enjoy the outdoors and the warmth of summer). Short of leaving the state, there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself despite the suffocating humidity and daily torrential downpours. Don’t be taken hostage by the weather – here is our list of our favorite local activities for the endless rainy days ahead of us.
-Movies! Catch the latest flicks that you couldn’t be bothered to see when the sun was out and you were working on your tan. Next on our queue is Wonder Woman, Rough Night, and the latest Transformers flick. Don’t forget the popcorn! Or if you’re working on your summer body, sneak in some fresh fruit.
-Reading. We all love to bring a good book to the beach, but that usually goes out the window when the wine coolers and speakers are brought out. Now is the time to actually read them! Whether curled up on your couch (so cozy), or at a local bookstore or coffee shop, it’s a great time to catch up on that book you’ve been meaning to read forever.
-Shopping is never a bad call, but maybe this weather is the perfect time to finally check out Sawgrass Mills, one of the largest shopping malls in the country, with outlets providing big time discounts. There are definitely enough malls throughout Miami to spend a good, quality day of shopping while it rains and thunders outside.
-Take a class. Within the Miami area, you can find everything from cooking classes, to jewelry classes, and not to mention the myriad of exercise classes available, this is the time to learn about whatever it is you’ve been putting off during our fantastic, nearly year-round weather.
-Check out a museum. Miami is becoming quite the cultural mecca. With not one, but two museums opening up within the past five years, it’s finally your calling to check out PAMM (Perez Art Musuem of Miami), and the Frost Museum of Science (which boasts a very cool planetarium). Wandering around these two new awesome additions to our city is the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon, if you ask us.

Stripes are coming back in a major way this summer, and we are super stoked to have some of this awesome print among latest arrivals. Always flattering, stripes are usually associated with the nautical trend for summer. But our latest pieces prove there are many ways to wear this print. Here are our top 3 picks from our latest offerings:
-Off The Shoulder Romper: This bombshell piece can be worn day or night, and features an off-the-shoulder neckline and little ruffles along the bottom hem. The stripes are pretty and patterned; this soft piece would look great with espadrilles.
-Crop Top & Wide Leg Pant Set: If you want stripes done the Miami way, this is your go-to set. Featuring a cute crop top with a lace-up back and wide-leg, high-waisted pants, this set shows
just a touch of skin while staying classy, definitely due to the soft-blue striped print.
-Pocket Button Down: This piece is perfectly versatile; wear it as a cover-up to the beach, or with a pair of summer skinny jeans. Light and airy, this button down has a chest pocket with reverse stripes, to add just a touch of flair to a summer classic.

Nothing quenches thirst quite like a yummy, fruity cocktail (minus the alcohol) in the summer. And do we ever have the perfect cocktail for you! Whether chatting with your bestie over a summer afternoon drink, or hosting a dinner party, this drink captures summer to a T. Yep, Honey-Sweetened Limeade With Strawberries & Lime is a fun twist on the lemonade you remember from your younger summer days. Between the light sweetness of the strawberries, the distinct flavor of basil, and irresistible honey (which is also extremely healthy for you and packed with antioxidants), this is one summer drink you don’t want to miss! Here is the recipe (makes 6-8 drinks):
-1 cup honey
-12-16 medium size fresh limes (1 will be used as garnish)
-1 cup strawberries, sliced (some as garnish)
-1/4 cup of basil, chopped (some as garnish)
To make the honey-sweetened simple syrup
-Place honey and 1 1/2 cups of water in a small saucepan. Cook until honey is completely dissolved. Set aside and let it cool.
-Grate 3 limes and place the grated pieces in the saucepan with the dissolved honey.
-Squeeze the juice of the limes. You should have at least one cup of lime juice.
To make the limeade
-Place the honey mixture and lime juice in a pitcher. Add in sliced strawberries and chopped basil.
-Add in 5 cups of cold water and give it a good stir. Place it in the fridge to cool for at least 2 hours.
-When ready to serve, pour limeade into glasses filled with ice and garnish with chunks of strawberries and fresh basil leaves.
Voila! There you have it, yummy homemade honey limeade! Enjoy!

Festival season continues on as Bonnaroo Music Festival takes place during June 8th-June 11th in Manchester, TN. This is an extra-fun festival as it is held on a campground (yes, if you want the full Bonnaroo experience, you will be camping), and features tons of performances by musicians as well as comedians (because who doesn’tenjoy some laughs?). There is also a tent devoted to movies and short pieces, mostly independent films and cult classics. In short, it’s all going down at Bonnaroo. Oh, and did we mention the food trucks?
While there will be a livestream of the concert, we highly recommend going for real, because this year’s headliners are not to be missed. Some of the acts performing include U2, The Weeknd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lorde, Dua Lipa, and Chance The Rapper, to literally just name a few of the 100+ acts performing on 10 different stages. It’s a music lover’s dream come true!
Fyre Festival take note, because Bonnaroo is about to show you how it’s done!
Summer Yum: Breakfast Yogurt Popsicles
Posted on June 5, 2017.
Summertime is a great time to try out new, light recipes, especially when said recipes are packed full of fresh berries. This is why we are currently in love with a recipe we came across for Breakfast Yogurt Popsicles. This recipe combines everything we love to eat in summer: greek yogurt, berries, and granola, all in a fun way – on a stick! Great for breakfast on hot summer mornings, as well as a pick-me-up snack in the afternoon, there is nothing not to love about these pops. Here is the recipe, which makes 6-8 popsicles (in only 5 minutes of prep time!):
· 1 Cup Greek Yogurt
· 1/2 Cup Milk
· 2 tsp Honey
· 1/2 Cup Granola
· 1 Cup Berries/Your Favorite Chopped Fruits
1. Mix milk, yogurt and honey in a bowl.
2. Pour mixture evenly among popsicle molds.
3. Throw a few of your favorite berries into each mold.
4. Mix another teaspoon of honey with the granola, and top the yogurt with some of the granola mixture.
5. Put a wooden ice cream stick into each mold. Put the popsicles into the freezer for at least 4 hours.
It’s that easy! Happy summer!
Royal Wedding: Pippa Gets Married!
Posted on May 24, 2017.
Pippa Middleton’s dream wedding was held this past Saturday, and by all accounts, it did sound like something out of a dream. Pippa wed James Matthews, a hedge fund millionaire, at St. Mark’s Church in Englefield, England. It was every bit the royal countryside wedding that the couple was reportedly hoping for.
After the official ceremony, close friends and family got together for a champagne brunch at the Englefield Estate. Guests of the brunch dined on delicacies like foie gras and langoustine claws. Fancy! Then, the party began at the home of Pippa and Kate’s parents (which just so happens to be a huge mansion called the Bucklebury Manor). A crystal palace was built on the property to
set the perfect ambiance for this star-studded, black-tie affair.
Of course, Pippa’s sister, Kate, was in attendance, along with her two royal kids, and Prince William, among other royals. Prince Harry attended as well, and his girlfriend (and rumored soon-to-be fiancé), Meghan Markle attended the evening reception.
Oh, and of course, we have the deets on what Pippa wore on her special day. Pippa’s gown was a custom cotton silk lace piece by Giles Deacon, and she accented the dress with custom Manolo Blahnik Seneca shoes. To add a personal touch, she wore the same pear-cut diamond drop earrings that she wore to her royal sister Kate’s wedding to Prince William. Her look was the real dream, and she pulled it off perfectly!
Top Summer Vacay Destinations
Posted on May 22, 2017.
Whether you want to do a girl’s trip, or travel solo, summer is a great time to explore. Where to go? Obviously, the choices are endless, but here are a few places our wanderlust is directing us towards in a major way:
-Bali – Most famous as being a backdrop to Elizabeth Gilbert’s most sacred “Eat, Pray, Love” moments. Bali is all that and more… and what you may not realize is that it’s also a place you can visit on a budget. Yes, everything you’ve heard is true, Bali is home to gorgeous, villa-style hotels, coastline views, spas and saunas to rejuvenate the soul, cooking classes… this is definitely a place people come to recharge. But the other side of Bali is the nightlife. There are many rooftop bars with fantastic views, often with live music or featured DJs. Bali wants you to have whatever type of vacay you want to have, and at a sweet price.
-Hong Kong… let us count the reasons why. First off, it’s a bargain shopper’s paradise, with both international brands and local, trendy shops offering insane bargains. Secondly, if you like exotic food, this is the place to get some legit dim sum! Lastly, it’s not all bright city lights; Hong Kong has many gorgeous and super-scenic hiking trails, some overlooking the beach, so you can work off that yummy Chinese food. This city has it all!
-With a lot of attention on Canada lately, it dawned on us that Montreal makes for an amazing summer trip to our neighbors up north. Why? Well, there’s a lot to explore… think cobblestone roads along Old Montreal, home to cute restaurants and boutiques, as well as more modern shopping areas, award-winning cuisine, summer jazz festivals, and pretty nature (within walking distance of silver lakes). This cosmopolitan city’s residents have a reputation for being friendly, so make some new friends while you’re there (Justin Trudeau, where you at?)!
Where are you heading this summer? Share with us – we’d love to know!
Astrology Update: Bye, Retrograde
Posted on May 4, 2017.
We can all breathe a collective sigh of relief, because as of Wednesday, Mercury is no longer in retrograde! Yep, after almost a month, the potential for chaos that comes with Mercury being in retrograde is finally over.
For those familiar with astrology, you already know that a planet is in retrograde when it is moving in a direction opposite to planet Earth, and is therefore in rest. Mercury, in particular, is known to have a rough retrograde period, as it is the planet that governs communication. As you can imagine, when Mercury’s communication vibes are in this period of rest, it’s very wise to put off important or binding decisions, having any type of confrontational conversations, and even writing work emails, just because these important things may not go as smoothly as you’d like, and misunderstandings are likely to occur. This period is hardest on relationships, so you can finally have that conversation with your boo that you’ve been waiting to have, at long last.
So that’s the good news – we’re in the clear for the summer with Mercury. The bad news? Yep, it goes back into retrograde on August 13th, so get out whatever you have to say this summer!
Fashion Stars of the 2017 Met Gala
Posted on May 3, 2017.
The Met Gala is always a celebrity-studded event featuring the most avant-garde fashion, and this year’s Gala, held on Monday at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, was no different. The theme was Rei Kawakubo’s “Comme des Garcons” label, a Japanese collection featuring non-conformist designs. As usual, we were glued to the fashion and couldn’t wait to round up a list of the best-dressed. Here’s a peek at our list:
-We LOVED Priyanka Chopra’s Ralph Lauren trench coat gown. With a slit up one leg, a sprawling train, and a very dramatic, off-the-shoulder collar, it was a perfect example of classy-meets-edgy, and definitely fitting of the non-conformist theme. Sparkly Jennifer Fischer earrings added just a touch of glam to the mix. Well done!
-Lily Collins perfectly blended girly and edgy in a gown by Giambattista Valli. With the strapless, tight black sweetheart top and the contrasting fluffy, cotton candy-like pink bottom, this was certainly a twist on the traditional that Kawakubo can appreciate. Her sleek black bob and black lipstick finished the look.
-The hands-down winner of the Met Gala, according to EVERYBODY, was definitely Rihanna. Actually wearing a piece by Kawakubo herself, she looked stunning. In a mix-up of petal-shaped textile and floral print fabric, Rih finished the look with red heels that laced all the way up her legs, and a flattering red eyeshadow/blush look that we totally want to steal for our next night out.
Until next year, Met Gala!
Say Goodbye To The “Girls”
Posted on April 21, 2017.
Last Sunday, your favorite “Girls” said goodbye to HBO, and to all of us, as the series finale aired. Sad, yes. But this last episode tied up a lot of loose ends, and maybe more than anything, showed us the first glimpse of Hannah stepping into the true grown-up world, a world where she could see past herself and tend to the needs of her newborn baby, Grover.
While we watched the Girls make many a mistake through their 20s, this final episode cleared the air as to whose friendship was long-term, and who had matured in ways that would take them down different paths. It was great to see Marnie really show up as Hannah’s best friend, and interesting to see Hannah’s mother give her a speech about motherhood, only for Hannah to relay the same message to a young girl she meets at the park.
This show, throughout its run, took a lot of heat for lack of ethnic diversity and for its focus on self-obsessed millennials. However, it was a big win for women overall, as it focused on women’s issues in a more realistic way than many shows created before it. This was maybe most evident once Hannah became pregnant unexpectedly, and, once Grover was born, portrayed her stumbling through new motherhood on her own, seemingly fighting with her own instinct to put her child’s needs above all else. The episode ending on a touching note, with Grover finally breastfeeding from Hannah, finally accepting her as his mother, and her finally accepting this new stage of life.
We’ll miss you, “Girls”…thanks for the memories.
