#TimesUp at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards
This entry was posted on January 10, 2018.
This year’s Golden Globe Awards packed a bit more substance than picking our best dressed celebrities of the evening. 2018’s Golden Globes, which aired on Sunday night, served a purpose. The “#MeToo” movement, which began in an attempt to raise awareness of sexual assault and harassment against women, struck particularly close to home for the entertainment industry in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Sunday’s awards show was a culmination of the movement and the responsibility Hollywood feels to represent all industries in clapping back at sexual violence towards women with its own hashtag, #TimesUp.
All but three attendees wore black to this year’s awards. Yep, the stars left behind their usual ravishing reds and shimmering golds for a more solemn black to symbolize unity within their movement. That isn’t to say the fashion wasn’t fabulous; these were some of the hottest black dresses we have ever seen! Kendall Jenner absolutely killed it in her Giambattista Valli haute couture gown, which had a massive, fun train. Who said dressing for a cause can’t be super stylish?
Highlights from the evening include many great speeches by some of our Hollywood favorites. However, no speech struck a chord as powerful as that of Oprah’s, which brought everyone in the room to their feet in thunderous applause. It was so powerful, in fact, that people are now urging her to run for President in 2020! She definitely let the world know that time is up for women to be treated as second class citizens.
It’s truly incredible that Hollywood rose to the challenge of facing a societal problem that has gone on for way too long. Much love to our favorite actresses (and actors) who made this a night to remember by fighting for such an important cause!
