Last Call on Netflix
Posted on December 30, 2015.
OMG, no! Netflix has announced a bunch of movies and series that will be taken off their site come January! While it is definitely the time of year to be out with the old and in with the new, we are admittedly sad to see some of our favorites go. Catch these on Netflex before they’re gone:
-Jerry Maguire – Show me the money! This Tom Cruise comedy will always have a special place in our hearts, if only because it came out when Tom Cruise was still hot. We love the celebrity cameos! Get your boyfriend to watch it one last time with you, if only for the sports references and cameos.
-Zoolander – The only reason it’s acceptable that this is being removed from Netflix is because Zoolander 2 is due out in February. But this amazing, strange comedy, featuring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, will have us Blue Steeling forever.
-Hoarders: Collection – Ok, so some of us at Blush have a reputation for being crazy messy, but we have nothing on these hoarders. This collection will literally make your head spin, as you wonder how these people have so many… things in their home. Watch one last jaw-dropping time.
While they’re unfortunately axing many more than these few titles, we say this is the perfect opportunity to get cozy and have a movie marathon!
Realistic New Year’s Resolutions!
Posted on December 23, 2015.
For most of us, New Year’s resolutions come and go as fast as a summer fling. While we are so sure that we are going to run our first marathon in the New Year during that last week in December, the next year goes by with barely a jog to show for ourselves. Luckily, we’re here to keep you motivated! Here’s a list of resolutions that you’ll actually be able to keep:
-Choosing Health – Rather than setting crazy body goals for yourself, like “have a 6-pack by February,” we suggest a more moderate approach. Move towards health in ways you are comfortable with. If you know you aren’t going to hit the gym 5 times a week once the New Year hits, try going for an after-dinner walk to start out.
-Go With The Flow – Don’t make resolutions that you have no control over. If you say, “this is the year I will get married,” and you are currently flying solo, it makes no sense, even if you feel the urgency to make this a goal. A more reasonable goal would be to get out there more, and open yourself to meeting new people. Who knows, you may not meet The One this year, but you might meet a future best friend, or future employer. Be open-minded!
-Wardrobe on Fleek – Here’s an easy goal: make this the year that you dress to kill. We guarantee you will succeed, because we are here at Blush to supply you with all of your fashion needs. So go ahead and talk that talk, because we will keep your wardrobe on point all year long.
-Look Outside Yourself – While the New Year is a great time to re-center ourselves, and figure out what we need to do to live happier, healthier lives, this is also a good time to think about causes we believe in, and ways we can give back to the world around us. Whether with time or money, we all have some cause near and dear to our hearts; keep this in mind when making your resolutions, because sometimes we get the most out of what we give.
-Nurture Yourself – When making your resolutions, don’t forget to include goals to keep yourself grounded and at peace. Vow to make “you” time, doing whatever truly makes you happy, not for anyone else, but for yourself. At the end of the day, this is the resolution that will allow you the capacity to meet your other goals.
Good luck... you can so do this!
Cute Party Recipe: Holiday Shortbread Bites
Posted on December 18, 2015.
For a sweet nibble at the fabulous holiday party you’re throwing, serve up these irresistible Funfetti Shortbread Bites. These delicious little cubes are easy to prepare, fun to pick on, and festive to look at! Here’s the recipe… Enjoy!
-1 cup butter, cold and diced into 1 tbsp pieces
-2/3 cup granulated sugar
-1/2 tsp almond extract
-2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
-2 1/2 tbsp non-pareils sprinkles (holiday colors work best!)
-Butter a 13x9-inch baking dish and line with 2 sheets of parchment paper (one horizontally and one vertically), leaving a 1-inch over hang on all sides, set aside.
-Mix butter and sugar with an electric mixer until well combined. Add in almond extract. With mixer set on low speed, slowly add in flour and mix until combined. Mix in sprinkles. Press dough into an even layer in prepared pan. Chill dough 20-30 minutes. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
-Lift dough from pan using parchment overhang on all sides. Cut into 1/2-inch squares using a sharp knife (it works best to just cut long rows). Add more sprinkles over the top and gently press into dough. Transfer about 1/3 of the cookies to an unbuttered baking sheet, and scatter cookies out spacing cookies 1/2-inch apart. Bake in pre-heated oven 8-12 minutes. Repeat process with remaining bites, adding them to a cool baking sheet. Cool completely, then transfer to an airtight container and store at room temperature, until ready to PARTY, at which point, transfer bites into a festive bowl.
Holiday Party Planning 101
Posted on December 16, 2015.
Tis the season for holiday get-togethers, and if you’re throwing a holiday bash, you know that it does take a little preparation. We’ve compiled a little list to make sure that your party is an absolute blast:
-First things first: provide yummy, seasonal food and drinks to your guests. Gingerbread cookies, savory cheeses, and of course, eggnog! Prosecco is sparkly and festive as well. (Psst: check out a great little holiday recipe in our next blog)
-Dress the part: You’re the hostess, so dress to set the tone of your party. For a fancy feeling, try our Black Mini Dress, a cocktail dress that is absolutely perfect for a holiday party. For a slightly more casual feel, we suggest our Burgundy Faux Suede Dress… its flowy silhouette is sure to set a laid-back tone for a get-together with good friends
-Get festive! Decorate with strings of Christmas lights to give your party a magical aura, and if you don’t have a real fireplace, you can keep a virtual fireplace burning on YouTube. Put on some classic Christmas tunes (Mariah Carey’s Christmas album is definitely considered a classic at this point), and don’t forget the mistletoe!

We’ve made a short list of cute ideas that will delight your girls during this season of giving:-MAC’s Turquatic Rollerball – This mini, carry-on version of their alluring perfume is perfect for a girlfriend who’s on the go. The lovely thing about Turquatic is that it appeals to all scent perferences: it’s sexy, it’s bold, and it’s feminine, but it’s also wearable to work. Highly recommended by a Turquatic addict!-Blush’s Black Racerback Crop Top – This cute little crop is perfect to match with both casual wear or a hot mini and high heels. Get it for that friend that likes to flaunt her tummy; she’ll love you forever, because she’ll wear this shirt everywhere!-Victoria’s Secret Cosmetic Bag Trio – What girl doesn’t need cute little bags to stash her beauty goodies? Victoria’s Secret has a few options, but we’re particularly in love with the black and gold sparkly ones! Holiday Party Look on Fleek
Posted on December 9, 2015.
What to wear to your next holiday party? We say, mix a little naughty with a little nice!
Classic black and white can be paired as the base of your outfit; start off with our Black Pencil Skirt, which hits just above knee level for a super-flattering silhouette. Throw in just a little bit of edgy bad girl while keeping a simple color scheme by adding our White Body Con Crop Top. This top features long sleeves, but shows some tummy and has a sexy criss-cross back. We love these two pieces together, but now comes the real fun: accessorizing!
We love this look with high black boots and sparkly jewelry (this is a festive time of year, after all!) – a glitzy statement necklace would be perfect. Red lips and a smoky eye go best here, and for hair, we’d go for a sleek bun, to show off the unique back of the top! Of course, accessorize to your desire, but this will definitely be our go-to holiday party look.
Cheers, and happy holidays!
5 Ways to Cope: Miami Winter
Posted on December 4, 2015.
We have it rough down here in Miami. While northerners KNOW they are walking into sub-zero temperatures (and to dress appropriately), we don’t know off-hand whether it’s 80 degrees or 50 degrees outside. Not to mention the struggle at Starbucks: we WANT to order hot, seasonal drinks (hi, Pumpkin Spice Latte), but it kinda feels exactly the same as the rest of the year. Here are some ways for us Miamians to cope with this confusing time of year:
1) Get one of your northern friends to ship you some salt from their driveway. You’re going to need it to rim your martinis, regardless of whether it’s a beach day, or a chilly night on your balcony.
2) Go for winter fashion, but without the extra frills. Buy that super cute wool dress, and feel confident that you’ll be able to wear it WITHOUT stockings, puffy vest, etc. Winning!
3) Go out and enjoy life. This is the time of year that people all over the world are coming here, because the weather is perfect and we have lots going on. From Art Basel (the parties!) to Food and Wine Festival and beyond, we have a million things to do, so get ready for a good time.
4) Console yourself with the fact that you don’t get snow days with the fact that you’ll get beach days throughout the winter. It may not be all the time, but you will definitely find yourself in a bikini in the middle of December. Similarly, get excited, because you’ll finally get to see all of your friends from up north. The same ones you didn’t hear back from in July, will be clamoring to visit you in January!
5) Embrace the cold. For about 3 days total (average), it will get legit COLD. So yes, get ready to break out that super cute quilted jacket and knee-high boots, because a chill WILL descend on us at some point. That is, if you own any winter clothes. If not, no worries, you don’t really need them.
Kristen Stewart as Coco Chanel.
Posted on December 2, 2015.
As you may have already heard, Kristen Stewart, of “Twilight” fame, is now featured in a short film called “Once and Forever,” directed by Karl Lagerfeld, portraying Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. Or at least that’s what we thought when it was announced. Upon the film being released, we were treated to a film featuring Stewart playing an actress being cast as Kristen Stewart. Confusing enough for you? It’s basically a behind-the-scenes look at an actress being cast as the legendary Coco, which is a pretty interesting concept.
The film itself is actually very entertaining, and maybe exactly what you’d expect from Kristen Stewart. Keeping with her mysterious and slightly difficult reputation, she plays an actress that throws tantrums throughout the casting and filming process. How much of it is an act? It’s hard to tell. Regardless, she does have some charming scenes playing Coco, most notably a charming dance routine with a cane.
She’s an interesting choice for this role, as one may have never seen the girl from your favorite vampire series playing the woman responsible for one of the most glamorous fashion houses of all time. Maybe it’s not a complete surprise, as she is currently the face of both Balenciaga and Chanel, but she sure has come a long way from edgy Bella to high fashion… and we like it!
