  • Holiday Travel on a Budget

While we all love going on a winter holiday, many of us need to make sure we’re not breaking the piggy bank by traveling. Here are some tips on how to stay within your budget while planning a vacation this winter:

-Destination – Pick somewhere new, different, and maybe somewhere off the beaten path, or at least not in the height of tourist season, to avoid being price gouged throughout your trip. There’s a million places to go, so just make sure to visit each place at a time of year where it makes financial sense.

-Plane ticket – The second most important tip is to choose your flight wisely! We all know there are websites where you can find the cheapest tickets available, but make sure those tickets are all-inclusive, as many low-budget airlines tack on baggage fees and other fees, making the flight much more expensive than it appears online.

-Packages – If you can, find a package deal that includes plane tickets, accommodations, and if available, a rental car. This way, you’re covered on all fronts, and all you have left to worry about is enjoying your vacation to the fullest.

-Accommodations – Speaking further on accommodations, sometimes smaller, quaint places are the way to go. Not only are they often cheaper, but you’ll often experience a more personalized experience at a small inn than, say, a Hilton hotel. You can save big money this way, freeing up funds for activities on your trip!

One last tip… sometimes, the most fun attractions are locals spots that aren’t included in travel guides. Mingle with locals, and check out any highly recommended locals spots, which will likely be cheaper than big tourist attractions (and probably more fun!).

Now that you’ve got your budget in order, enjoy your trip!

  • Girl Talk: How to Handle Haters

    Posted on November 20, 2015.

When you’ve got it going on and feel good about yourself, it usually brings positive attention, but unfortunately, it can also bring negative attention, and can attract what we know as haters. These are people that talk badly about you to others, sometimes talk badly about you to your face, and just generally bring a raincloud of negative energy into your sunny skies.

How to deal? First of all, realize that most of the time, those trying to bring you down don’t feel very good about themselves, and misery loves company. Take it as a compliment that you’re so important to someone who probably doesn’t take up much of your thoughts, and definitely don’t take their words personally or let them get you down.

Secondly, keep doing what you’re doing. The confidence you have that creates jealousy in others means you are living a life true to yourself. Follow your passions and dreams, and you will slowly find that there are more and more positive people in your life who have more similar values to you, and suddenly, there’s no more room in your life to worry about haters.

Lastly, don’t engage in the negativity of haters. Don’t validate their words or actions, because it only adds fuel to the fire, and encourages them to continue trying to get to you. Just keep being the kick-ass Blush girl that you are, and keep those that appreciate your awesome self in your life. Those are the people to hold on to… the rest will drop off when they see that you don’t have a reaction to their jealousy! Keep shining!

  • Pumpkin Spiked Horchata: Yes, Please!

In keeping with fall traditions, we’ve been indulging in our fair share of Caramel Brulee Lattes and the like. And we are DEFINITELY not complaining; we’ve been waiting all year to experience all the tastes of fall once again. This is why we were tickled to come across a fall drink recipe that’s a little bit sweet, a little bit spicy (just like us!). Try the Pumpkin Spiked Horchata, which combines pumpkin, cinnamon sugar, and a kick of Mexican spice for yourself. This recipe requires a little prep, but it makes 4-6 yummy drinks, and it’s totally worth it once you’re sipping this amazingness:

    Ingredients:

    1 cup long grain rice

    5 cups water

    1 cinnamon stick

    1 cup pumpkin puree

1 cup full-fat canned coconut milk (or milk of choice)

2/3 cup coconut sugar (or sweetener of choice)

    1 tsp pure vanilla extract

12 oz. spiced or vanilla rum

Cinnamon sugar for rimming glasses and garnish

    Directions:

    1. Blend rice and water in blender until the rice is in tiny pieces pieces.
    2. Add cinnamon stick to the blender pitcher, cover, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
    3. Once mixture has soaked, strain rice milk through a fine mesh strainer that's been placed over a pitcher.
    4. While milk is straining, whisk together pumpkin puree, coconut milk and sugar in a small sauce pan and cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
    5. Remove pumpkin mixture from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
    6. Stir the pumpkin mixture into strained rice milk until well mixed.
    7. To serve, add ice and 1 1/2 ounces of rum to a glass rimmed in cinnamon sugar, top off with the pumpkin spice horchata, and stir with a cinnamon stick.

And there you have it! Enjoy with friends for a warm beginning to the holiday season!
