Say Goodbye To The “Girls”

Last Sunday, your favorite “Girls” said goodbye to HBO, and to all of us, as the series finale aired. Sad, yes. But this last episode tied up a lot of loose ends, and maybe more than anything, showed us the first glimpse of Hannah stepping into the true grown-up world, a world where she could see past herself and tend to the needs of her newborn baby, Grover.

While we watched the Girls make many a mistake through their 20s, this final episode cleared the air as to whose friendship was long-term, and who had matured in ways that would take them down different paths. It was great to see Marnie really show up as Hannah’s best friend, and interesting to see Hannah’s mother give her a speech about motherhood, only for Hannah to relay the same message to a young girl she meets at the park.

This show, throughout its run, took a lot of heat for lack of ethnic diversity and for its focus on self-obsessed millennials. However, it was a big win for women overall, as it focused on women’s issues in a more realistic way than many shows created before it.  This was maybe most evident once Hannah became pregnant unexpectedly, and, once Grover was born, portrayed her stumbling through new motherhood on her own, seemingly fighting with her own instinct to put her child’s needs above all else. The episode ending on a touching note, with Grover finally breastfeeding from Hannah, finally accepting her as his mother, and her finally accepting this new stage of life.

We’ll miss you, “Girls”…thanks for the memories.

Coachella Trends, Weekend One

Coachella has always been about the music, but right after the music, it’s definitely about the fashion. Especially with celebrities spreading their fashion wings at the hottest annual concert in the country, fans are inspired to try new looks and take on the newest trends. This year is no exception, with crowds going beyond predictable ethnic details, fringe, and flower crowns.

The first weekend of Coachella was definitely on point musically, the highlight being a surprise appearance by Drake during Future’s set. The fashion was definitely must-see as well… these were a couple of trends that we spotted and loved:

-Let’s start with beauty and hair. No longer shy about shimmer, girls did away with bronzer and opted for glitter highlighter! Glitter was also worked into hair, in the form of double buns. Another hot trend? Space buns (several twisty buns around the head).

-Underwear as outerwear has been quite the sensation at Coachella, with bralettes and unitards ruling concert crowds. It’s easy to see why, as pieces like this are easy to mix and match, and many girls did just that, adding funky twists to simple pieces. We loved seeing leotards draped with fabrics of all sorts, in every imaginable way.

-Metal neckpieces and mirror-embroidered tops. This year was not just sugar and spice – Coachella fans were out there in extreme textiles, along the lines of stacked metal chokers, and cute, tie-back little netted shirts with jagged mirrored pieces embroidered in.

That’s Coachella for you. Expect the unexpected! We can’t wait to see what the upcoming weekend brings!

Pretty in Pastel: Easter Outfit Ideas

Spring is in full swing, and Easter is upon us! It’s a time to spend with family, share a good meal together, and (most importantly) finally get to really wear some spring gear. If you’re still looking for that perfect Easter outfit, allow us to offer a couple of suggestions from our brand new arrivals!

-Our Light Blue Off The Shoulder Dress is pretty and girly, yet casual enough to be comfortable for all-day wear. This dress features a really cute ruffle along the bandeau-like top, and comes in a powder-blue shade that looks good on every skin tone. This one is must for spring!

-Our Cream Floral dress is a fluttery little number with ruffles at the neckline and at the hem. This pretty dress also features a racerback style in the back, to show off a little shoulders and back while still staying classy!

-For a cute little top and shorts number, try our lightweight Light Blue Halter Top with our Light Blue Drawstring Shorts. These two are super adorable together, but you can also mix and match either with other pieces. The top features a super cute ruffle edge along the straps, and the bottoms feature drawstrings for that perfect fit, while still looking sweet.

Okay, now that you have your perfect look down, we wish you the happiest of Easters!!!

Victoria Beckham x Target

Super exciting news for you low-budget fashionistas (and former Spice Girls) out there. Victoria Beckham’s Target collection is finally here! Well, kinda. The pieces are viewable online, but aren’t actually up for grabs until April 9th. Her line is super cute and she includes pieces for women, children, and babies. Other great things about the line is that they are being sold in sizes up to 3x (so all women can get in on the fun), and that the price range for her items goes up to only $70 (with most pieces around $40).

Her line is awesome in that many are basics, but feature bright colors, whimsical designs, and cute details like scalloped edges. Posh Spice has created a collection that definitely works on a day-to-day basis, but a really chic day-to-day basis. Plus, we love her ad featuring our favorite ‘90s jam, “Spice Up Your Life,” by none other than our beloved Spice Girls!

All in all, we’ve pretty much never been this excited to hit up Target, as we can’t wait to spice up our wardrobe! Thanks, Posh! But hurry, because this collection will only be available until April 30th!

Equal Pay Day: Not Quite There Yet

Equal Pay Day, a day dedicated to marking the wage gap between the genders, was yesterday, and it seems we still have a long way to go until women are paid the same amount as a man for doing the same amount of work. As things stand right now, white women make 83 cents per every dollar a white man makes. For other ethnicities, the gap is even worse: black women make 66 cents, and Latin women make 60 cents, per every dollar a white man makes.

Unfortunately, on March 27th, another step back from equal pay for equal work was taken, when the 2014 Fair Pay And Safe Workplaces order was rolled back. This act included rules that protect women in the workplace, and the last thing we need right now is even LESS protection for our rights in the workplace. However, that is the whole point of dedicating a day to taking a look at where we are in closing the wage gap.

The good news? In honor of the 20% wage gap between men and women, many retailers participated in a #20PercentCounts campaign (sale!), to show just how much the disparity in wages comes out to. But in reality, all women would prefer to be paid equally to men rather than buy something 20% off, and we look forward to the day we get there as a country, and no longer need Equal Pay Day.

Hot Spring Nail Trends

One of the best things about a change in season is getting out of a rut of the trends that run their course each season. It’s spring, and that means brand new trends to try out, from clothes to hair. But let’s start somewhere simple… our nails!

There are some really fresh and amazing looks for nails trending that we absolutely cannot wait to try out. Here are the top three nail trends that we’re looking forward to rocking this spring:

-Ok, so there was a moment during Fashion week where something magical happened. Rodarte stylist painted the models’ nails a clear/ light beige… and then she applied gold glitter with a thin brush, just around the cuticles, giving the appearance of jewelry. We can’t wait to recreate this one… it doesn’t get much prettier than this!

-Designs, designs, designs. Stylists went crazy during fashion week over creating almost cartoon-like, bold, colorful designs, none of which are for the tame at heart. Jeremy Scott was a nail standout, with bold colors becoming the backdrop to a circle of a contrasting color. Love!

-Ombre metallic in feminine colors were also a hit. Think rose gold fading into a peachy, metallic sunset – this is what was created for Michael Costello’s models, and it looked simply amazing. Many other designers did the ombre metallic thing (yes, it’s now a thing), and we couldn’t be happier.

For All Our Aries Ladies

Spring is in the air, and for all you Aries rams, it’s time to celebrate! Yep, the same day that spring officially began (March 21st) was the first day of Aries season!

Aries are known to be straight to the point, sometimes to a fault, and this may get you in trouble this month, just because it might catch those that don’t know you very well off guard. So maybe go a little easy with new friends or new coworkers. However, no worries. Once those around you get to know you, and see what a loyal ram you are, they will accept the parts of you that they may have not liked as much when they met you. As always, don’t worry too much about what others think of you (as Aries are known to be hotheads), because really, there will always be some people who you won’t mesh with. Focus on the people you actually click with, and this month will be smooth sailing!

Our Guide to WMC

It’s a great time of year to be in Miami! That’s right, it’s Winter Music Conference 2017! This year’s WMC runs from March 21st to March 26th, and includes more music events throughout venues in Miami than we can count, culminating in Ultra Music Festival, which goes from March 24th to March 26th in downtown Miami. Word on the street is that this year’s Ultra stage is totally futuristic and features a literally mind-blowing sound system, and the headliners include Cypress Hill, Prodigy, Alesso, Steve Aoki, and many more special guests.

So yeah, it’s a good time for music. Which WMC events are you heading to this week? Here are a couple of events that have piqued our interest:

-“United We Groove” on Friday at the Clevelander. Kristina Sky presents an awesome lineup of DJs like Lavelle Dupree and Denzo in the party-ready atmosphere of the Clevelander on Ocean Drive.

-“Undr The Watr” at the pool at the Epic Hotel on Saturday. Roger Sanchez and friends will provide the special beats; just bring your swimsuit and be ready to party.

-“20 Years of Subliminal” at the National Hotel with Erick Morillo. Featuring DJ Erick Morillo and others, this party is the epitome of Miami Music Week – don’t miss it!

Happy Music Week and be safe!

Beauty & The Beast: Back, and Better Than Ever

For those of us Blush girls who grew up in the golden days of Disney princess movies, our favorites have felt untouchable. From The Little Mermaid (which is coming soon as a live-action movie) to Sleeping Beauty, we loved our princesses fiercely.

Well, our favorite “tale as old as time” had reincarnated from its 1991 Disney cartoon movie to the live-action “Beauty and the Beast,” in theaters now. And we’re very pleased to say that it is a job well done! Starring Emma Watson as the lovely Belle, this screenplay features great special effects in bringing the Beast (Dan Stevens) to the big screen. And Emma totally nailed it as the brainy, beautiful Belle.

All of your favorites are brought back to life, from Gaston to Mrs. Potts, and there are brand new songs added to the original score. We’d say this is pretty much as magical as we would have hoped.

Now we’re just waiting for the live-action version of The Little Mermaid to hit theaters this summer, and we’ll officially be in Disney princess heaven!

Who Run the World?

Just a week ago was International Women’s Day, which, across the nation, became a protest called “A Day Without Women.” This was women’s way of showing the world what it would be like without our contribution to society, with many females sitting out of work and other obligations in solidarity.

This protest, of course, comes on the heels of many attacks on the women’s rights in the U.S., most notably our reproductive rights. Another way that women are supporting women is identifying and doing business with businesses run by other women, especially a portion of the profit is donated to women’s causes.

So, what can us powerful, beautiful Blush girls do to support our fellow females? Shop women’s businesses and stay gorgeous and trendy at the same time:

-Check out DryBar to get your hair looking perfect for a night out on the town. Owned by Ali Webb, your hair is in good hands with the master stylists at DryBar.

-Treat yourself with Birchbox, owned by Hayley Barna. This subscription beauty service is pretty popular, but if you haven’t tried it yet, now is the time!

-If you’re interested in making a little more of a political statement, snag one of Amanda Brinkman’s adorb “Nasty Woman” shirts, with a big heart on the front. The best part? Brinkman, owner of Google Ghost, donates 50% of all t-shirt proceeds to Planned Parenthood. Love it!
