Aries are known to be straight to the point, sometimes to a fault, and this may get you in trouble this month, just because it might catch those that don’t know you very well off guard. So maybe go a little easy with new friends or new coworkers. However, no worries. Once those around you get to know you, and see what a loyal ram you are, they will accept the parts of you that they may have not liked as much when they met you. As always, don’t worry too much about what others think of you (as Aries are known to be hotheads), because really, there will always be some people who you won’t mesh with. Focus on the people you actually click with, and this month will be smooth sailing!
It’s a great time of year to be in Miami! That’s right, it’s Winter Music Conference 2017! This year’s WMC runs from March 21st to March 26th, and includes more music events throughout venues in Miami than we can count, culminating in Ultra Music Festival, which goes from March 24th to March 26th in downtown Miami. Word on the street is that this year’s Ultra stage is totally futuristic and features a literally mind-blowing sound system, and the headliners include Cypress Hill, Prodigy, Alesso, Steve Aoki, and many more special guests.
So yeah, it’s a good time for music. Which WMC events are you heading to this week? Here are a couple of events that have piqued our interest:
-“United We Groove” on Friday at the Clevelander. Kristina Sky presents an awesome lineup of DJs like Lavelle Dupree and Denzo in the party-ready atmosphere of the Clevelander on Ocean Drive.
-“Undr The Watr” at the pool at the Epic Hotel on Saturday. Roger Sanchez and friends will provide the special beats; just bring your swimsuit and be ready to party.
-“20 Years of Subliminal” at the National Hotel with Erick Morillo. Featuring DJ Erick Morillo and others, this party is the epitome of Miami Music Week – don’t miss it!
Happy Music Week and be safe!
For those of us Blush girls who grew up in the golden days of Disney princess movies, our favorites have felt untouchable. From The Little Mermaid (which is coming soon as a live-action movie) to Sleeping Beauty, we loved our princesses fiercely.
Well, our favorite “tale as old as time” had reincarnated from its 1991 Disney cartoon movie to the live-action “Beauty and the Beast,” in theaters now. And we’re very pleased to say that it is a job well done! Starring Emma Watson as the lovely Belle, this screenplay features great special effects in bringing the Beast (Dan Stevens) to the big screen. And Emma totally nailed it as the brainy, beautiful Belle.
All of your favorites are brought back to life, from Gaston to Mrs. Potts, and there are brand new songs added to the original score. We’d say this is pretty much as magical as we would have hoped.
Now we’re just waiting for the live-action version of The Little Mermaid to hit theaters this summer, and we’ll officially be in Disney princess heaven!
Just a week ago was International Women’s Day, which, across the nation, became a protest called “A Day Without Women.” This was women’s way of showing the world what it would be like without our contribution to society, with many females sitting out of work and other obligations in solidarity.
This protest, of course, comes on the heels of many attacks on the women’s rights in the U.S., most notably our reproductive rights. Another way that women are supporting women is identifying and doing business with businesses run by other women, especially a portion of the profit is donated to women’s causes.
So, what can us powerful, beautiful Blush girls do to support our fellow females? Shop women’s businesses and stay gorgeous and trendy at the same time:
-Check out DryBar to get your hair looking perfect for a night out on the town. Owned by Ali Webb, your hair is in good hands with the master stylists at DryBar.
-Treat yourself with Birchbox, owned by Hayley Barna. This subscription beauty service is pretty popular, but if you haven’t tried it yet, now is the time!
-If you’re interested in making a little more of a political statement, snag one of Amanda Brinkman’s adorb “Nasty Woman” shirts, with a big heart on the front. The best part? Brinkman, owner of Google Ghost, donates 50% of all t-shirt proceeds to Planned Parenthood. Love it!
Looking for a good flick for this dreary, cold March week? We suggest checking out “Get Out,” a psychological horror film like you’ve never seen before. Comedian Jordan Peele’s debut as a director has definitely been a success, as he is the first black writer-director to surpass $100 million at the box office. That’s amazing, especially considering the movie was made on a $4.5 million budget!
The premise of this movie is an interracial couple (Daniel Kaluuya as “Chris” and Allison Williams as “Rose”) going to visit Rose’s family for an annual get together. Chris, who is black, is a little overwhelmed by the idea of going to meet Rose’s family, as her family is white and not aware that Rose is in an interracial relationship. Rose reassures Chris that it will be fine, they head off to her parents’ house, and from there, let’s just say things get weird (no spoilers here, but this movie has definitely earned the niche of psychological thriller).
At times hilarious, at times horrific, and also lightly touching on issues affecting interracial relationships, this movie is a gem. Definitely check it out while it’s in theaters for a thriller that will keep you guessing!
Paris Fashion Week is in full swing right now, and we couldn’t be more into what we’ve seen so far. Many of our favorite designers have showed us a preview of their fall offerings, and we’re starting to pick up on some trends. Here are a couple of our top picks:
-Long sleeved, high-neck dresses. At first read, this may sound boring, but the ones shown off in Paris were anything but boring. For example, Valentino showcased several designs that were very covered up, but popped with bright prints, and hugged the body perfectly at the waist. Pure elegance!
-Menswear, reimagined. Stella McCartney did a great job at this, as did Celine, who sent a perfectly tailored blazer tucked into a patterned skirt down the runway.
-Girly details – frills, sheer, and ruffles. Giambattista Valli definitely showcased a super feminine collection, including many dressed featuring delicate floral prints with major ruffling at the bottom. Dior also showed up in soft shades of navy blue, with just as soft ruffling and sheer detailing.
So far, this is definitely a fashion week to remember… Designers are pulling out all the stops for their Fall 2017 collections! Which are your favorites so far?
We’re in withdrawal from last weekend’s Oscars, which were filled with all kinds of surprises, and thankfully, this included fashion surprises! We were wowed with our favorite stars’ fashion choices. Here is our roundup of our favorite looks of the night:
-Emma Stone stole our hearts in a gold embellished Givenchy Haute Couture creation with major fringe towards the bottom – it suited her perfectly on her big night winning Best Actress in a Leading Role for La La Land. She accented her look with Tiffany jewels, which
we consider another win for the night.
-Kristen Dunst looked like classic Hollywood in a black Dior Haute Couture strapless ball gown with a high-low train – talk about drama! It fit her perfectly, and her diamonds and red lip were the perfect touches to her glam look.
-Halle Berry turned every head in the room with her gorgeous, asymmetrical, shimmery Versace gown. Her hair was wild and fierce, perfectly complementing the fierceness of her gown. Can Halle do any wrong?
Of course, there were many other fashion stars shining at the Oscars! Who were your favorites?
With Milan Fashion Week coming to a close, there is much to discuss regarding designers’ visions for Fall 2017. There were also lots of statements made in light of the times we are living in (including Missoni’s models wearing pink cat cats similar to those worn at the recent Women’s March on Washington), but our favorite statement was made by none other than Dolce & Gabbana.
Dolce & Gabbana took a fresh outlook on their men’s runway by featuring influential millennials, many of who are simply well-known on social media, which, as we all know, is as essential as air to the millennial generation. D&G even saluted Justin Beiber by having a model walk down the runway in a shirt featuring his image.
So who was considered influential enough to rock D&G’s Fall 2017 runway? Think along the lines of Presley Gerber (Cindy Crawford’s irresistible son, who has 112k Instagram followers and counting), Luka Sabbat (high-profile friend of Kanye West and Jaden Smith, with 211k followers on Instagram), and Brandon Thomas Lee, super hot son of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee, ex-bf to Bella Thorn, and followed by 33.7k on Instagram). If these guys aren’t the epitome of an influential millennial, we’re not sure what is, but we do know that their show pulled all the stops and have definitely given people something to talk about… which is, of course, the hallmark of a good Fashion Week show!
With the breakneck speed that new restaurants pop up in Miami (and the often just-as-fast closures of said restaurants), it can be truly hard to find the latest hotspots. Here are three relatively new spots that you simply have to try:
1) Phuc Yea (7100 Biscayne Blvd) – This outpost of Vietnamese and Cajun food will definitely satisfy any craving for unique spices, aromas, and textures. From their Jambalaya to their Bao Buns, this place serves up the best from East and West, all with 90s hip hop in the background.
2) Paradigm Kitchen (1834 Bay Road) – from the creators of JugoFresh come this delicious vegan/vegetarian spot that will hit the spot without compromising healthy ingredients. From sweet potato brownies to their famous avocado toast to their unique coffee/matcha tea drinks, Paradigm is full of guilt-free deliciousness.
3) Upland (49 Collins Ave) – This new, California-inspired kitchen is undeniably serving up the goods in the form of pistachio pizza, their now-famous roasted short rib, and their extensive wine collection. The restaurant also has a sleek interior, complete with leather booths. We can’t wait to check it out and be Cali girls for a little while.
Of course, there are many places to try in Miami, but these are 3 great places to start! Happy eating!
If you love to eat, and you’re local to Miami, then this is your week. That’s right, the 2017 South Beach Food and Wine Festival kicks off on Thursday, and that means it’s time to go ham. If you are a die-hard for this culinary experience, then you know that the ONLY place to be is the Grand Tasting Village, where scores of restaurants are handing out free samples of gourmet food, and there are free samples of wines and spirits every direction you look. This is definitely our kind of party!
Even without tickets to the Tasting Village, there are tons of pop-up events going on all around Miami (like, from Coral Gables on up to Fort Lauderdale), so there’s definitely something for everyone. One that piques our interest? A Tiki Cocktail Showdown at the Surfcomber Hotel, where bartenders compete with their best take on an island drink, and light dishes from yummy restaurants like Sushi Samba.
And that’s just one event of the many taking place! Get in on the fun and see which events are happening near you, for an event local to South Florida that only comes once a year!
